Go Fishing In Victoria

The Department of Primary Industries - Fisheries is hosting a Free Family Fishing Festival at Kennington Reservoir - Bendigo as part of the 'Go Fishing in Victoria' initiative. To date 5000 participants and families have attended a similar event at one of the five Premier Lake locations in Victoria. Even really cold weather and rain last year didn't stop hundreds of family members coming out to enjoy the experience at Kennington.

Fully assisted and instructed workshops are run by Fisheries Officers, DPI staff and volunteers and are structured for children aged 4 - 16 years. Topics covered include fish handling, junior code of conduct, practical casting tuition and actual fishing in the Reservoir. A Knots and rigs clinic runs throughout the day to offer advice and demonstrate knot tying and rig set up for children and adults. Marquees house some of the workshops and activities, providing protection from the weather if required.

To ensure the whole family is catered for, other free activities include chef cooking demonstrations and tastings, stalls and displays, jumping castle, face painting and roving entertainment. SeaWeed Sally will be present with her marine exhibit - and the very popular marine touch tank, all children and adults can see and touch a variety of marine animals and creatures up close. SeaWeed Sally is on site all day to answer any questions.

All fishing equipment is supplied, no licence required for registered participants on the event day.
