When gold was discovered at this location in the 1850's, Emerald became the first settlement to develop in the Dandenong Ranges. The gold eventually petered out but Emerald became a successful agricultural township which grew to the charming destination it is today.
The puffing billy railway and natural attractions make Emerald somewhat of a step back in time. Gardens, lakes and historic architecture encourage visitors to appreciate the town for its environmental grace as well as it's colonial heritage.
See native wildlife at the Bimbimbie Wildlife Park or take a picnic at the delightful Emerald Lake Park. Try some of the wines in the region or pick yourself some organically grown Raspberries. There are many activities to take part in at Emerald. While this town is far from the hustle and bustle of the modern day city, Emerald visitors will always have something new to experience.
