See all locations in MelbourneThe Melbourne Docklands is an exciting location with big plans. While it is already popular, a new urban renewal project is set to change the face of Melbourne's CBD, predicting a tourist influx of up to 55,000 visitors per day by 2015.
Currently though, Docklands is home to the famous Telstra dome as well as other modern buildings and some extravagant pieces of modern art. The first people to live in the area were the Wurundjeri and Bunerong. After European settlement the docklands were built beside the Railways and became an important industrial and transport point for Victoria.
As ships increased in size so did the cargo, the docklands were less used for industrial import and the area became a prime spot for redevelopment.
