The graves are on the site where several Aboriginal men were publicly hanged for a spear attack on a convict labourer in 1864.

Here, you can learn more about Australia's troubled race relation history that began in the earliest days of colonial settlement. This era is remembered in the solitary grave at Butterabby about a 10 minute drive from Mullewa.

The region is rich in farming history and today is popular for the fields of everlasting wildflowers that colour the landscape each spring. It's also known for a number of religious and church buildings designed by the famous Western Australian architect-priest Monsignor John Hawes.

Mullewa is about a five hour drive north of Perth.
