Canyonleigh is a rural area covering 300 square kilometers in the Southern Highlands of NSW, west of Moss Vale. It is a small community of rural properties and a number of state forests which has attracted a new population of retirees and commuters to Sydney and Melbourne.
Canyonleigh was first settled in the 1830's and was mainly a timber producing area. The 1950's and 60's saw mass clearing of timber to convert the area to pastoral use, although it is still has heavily timbered areas. There was also some coal mining in the area.
Many visitors enjoy the tranquil countryside and wildlife staying at Bed & Breakfast cottages and Farmstays, as well as camping. Activities include wine tasting at local vineyards, riding and walking in the Bangadilly National Park.
